I’m pretty sure the reason I haven’t been writing much in this blog, other than not doing anything exciting and not taking any exciting pictures, is that I just haven’t been sad enough. Other than posts about pictures I am pretty sure most of my posts have been because I was sad or dissatisfied at something. That’s in certainty why I started writing here more than a year ago. I’m pretty sure all good literature has been a product of unhappiness or at least adversity. Luckily I have been pretty happy for the duration of this year especially if the only reason I’ve decided to write here is because my dog died…and now because we got shat all over at sectionals. For those who don’t actually know me, I play ultimate frisbee at Vassar College and sectionals is the first round of the College Series and usually a good competitive tournament. I’m pretty sure we won sectionals for the past two years. This year we beat Steven’s, who were terrible, and then proceeded to lose to TCNJ by 1 and simply gave up to Stoney Brook.
Now I knew from the end of last season that our team would be pretty depleted this year…but the success we had at High Tide in southern Georgia gave me hope, which only made everything since then that much more depressing. Of course, injuries and other unavoidable circumstances made things even harder, but there was not sense that we were trying to work around these difficulties. There was no engagement…just avoidance. Which would of course be all well and fine if only High Tide didn’t reveal a glimpse of such potential. Teams don’t win because of personal effort but by a refusal to fail the man next to you. I think we didn’t win because we don’t care enough.
Anyways, enough angst for now. It’s no good to complain and not do anything so I suppose I’d need to do something before complaining some more. Here are some of the better pictures from High Tide and just a few from sectionals and Boston. More pictures from High Tide can be found here: http://picasaweb.google.com/alouba03/HighTide10# though you’ve probably already seen them.
