Not really a quality picture, but too much of a cliche to pass up: Amsterdam’s red light district
Anyways, today I left around 8:30 from my hostel in Amsterdam and arrived here in Copenhagen at around 00:00. Woot. The journey could have been smoother, but no serious complaints. First, my train from Amsterdam left from a different station…so I had to make a connection without me knowing. I had to ask the agent when my train didn’t show up on the board. Didn’t miss anything there. Next, I had to get to Hamburg from Osnabruek, which happened to be a real busy line. Good thing I had a reservation. Too bad I didn’t know how to use it. I kicked out some little kids (reluctently) erronenously. Apparently I had to pay attention to the car number in addition to the seat number… Their chaperon/parent was not very pleased. I found my seat alright though, after much aisle waiting, and I had to kick some dude out. Tough luck brother.
So, I got to Hamburg with about an hour to spare before the next train. This was around 14:12 and I was starving, having only had a coke and a danish for breakfast. I went ahead and go some wurst (wrong kind again, tasted like a large hot dog…) with fries and a beer. I got mayo again…it’s growing on me. Anyways, it was 15 minutes or so until my train was suppose to arrive, so I went and looked on the board. It said “bitte Ansage beachten”. I know because I wrote it down to show it to an agent and ask him what it meant. It meant that I should listen to the anouncement….which meant I was screwed. Due to some accident shit, my train was to depart from a station 45 minutes down the line, at the same time. Can’t make it. Shitezah (or something like that, I thought it was fake, but someone in Cologne said it after he just missed the subway). So I had to wait for the next train…17:36. After groaning a bit, I went and had another coke and to see if I can do anything in Hamburg in 2 hrs. Nope, Hamburg is like OK city (well not really), spread out like fuck. Maybe not so much…and defintely cooler. But anyways, no luck there. So I sat around and groaned some more, then I found a copy shop with the laggiest computer ever, but with internet. Bummed around there for awhile until my train came.
My train actually came. But 40 minutes late or so because of some passenger difficulities. So much for German efficiency. Went through a similar seating fiasco, but ended up alright. Had a backwards seat….which wasn’t too bad. I think I got used to it. Blah blah blah blah…(I lack motivation to go out but it is too hot/ I am not tired enough to go to sleep so I am here babbling).
Anywho, the train drove right onto a ferry boat, which was pretty dope. The ferry ride was a nice refreshing break and the Baltic Sea quite pretty. But soon were were back on the train. The walk here wasn’t bad either, though long and a bit seedy. Too bad that’s my only impression of Copenhagen other then the hostel (which is nice, though the dorm is a bit hot and way large), and the train station. But I’ll be back in a few weeks.
Wind mills! I love wind mills. Wind turbines really. There are a lot of them around here. Yayyyyy!
The Baltic/North Sea
Denmark!
Me and a window:
Something that will be hilarious if you know what’s up, but quite useless if you don’t. Don’t worry, it’s ok.
Oh and it’s the Fourth of July already here. Wooo. No one cares. Some people might…and I am a little inclined to go searching for other Americans to celebrate with. Maybe do a celabratory shotgun (oh college….) since there aren’t any fireworks. Or maybe tomorrow night. Or maybe not at all…
To Visby tomorrow (via Stockholm and Malmo). One short train to Malmo (around 9:00), just across the water in Sweden, and then long ride up to Stockholm. Then bus to the ferry and a 3hr ferry to Visby. Should get there around 21:00.
Cheers
PS I’m turning British since everyone who speak English here do it with a British accent. Kind of. I unconsiously put on a British accent when I first start to talk. Maybe that’s just because I haven’t been talking too much. bahhhh
Oh and extra picture, product of boredom:
